2020 Wedding Photography Review

The year of persistence, strength and love.

Part of me was a little torn whether or not I should post my usual end of year review. It’s obviously been an absolute shit fest of a year for so many industries, but the wedding and hospitality sector has taken such a big hit. It’s been a really tough year and I’ve seen so many people in my industry struggle financially and emotionally… myself included.

I was meant to shoot over 60 weddings this year, but I ended up shooting just 16. I feel so fortunate to have been able to travel throughout Scotland and spend the day with such an incredible bunch of people during such a challenging period.

Weddings have changed so dramatically. The numbers have decreased significantly, everyone has had to wear a mask and there were certainly a fair amount of social distancing challenges with which to contend.

Having said that, I’ve actually really enjoyed these stripped back and intimate gatherings. I usually shoot quite a lot of elopements in the highlands, islands and remote corners of Scotland, so the new pace and relaxed atmosphere has really suited my style and personality.

I wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate all of those couples who persevered, defeated all of the obstacles and thought “Screw Covid! Let’s just get freaking married!”. That’s really what it was all about in the first place isn’t it?

…and to all of the couples who have postponed their weddings until a later date. Thank you for keeping in touch and sharing your new plans. I’m really excited for the future and I can’t wait to photograph your weddings… it will be worth the wait.

Let’s keep persevering, staying safe and spreading the love.
