A beautiful rustic wedding in the heart of West Sussex

When Alex and Michael asked me to come down to the south of England to photograph their wedding, I jumped at the chance.

As a Scottish wedding photographer, I've had the privilege of capturing countless beautiful ceremonies and receptions across Scotland. But there's something truly special about venturing south to document a wedding that blends Scottish and English traditions.

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Alex & Michael’s stunning rustic wedding at Upwaltham Barns in West Sussex. Alex is originally from the area, while Michael and his contingent are from Scotland, and their celebration was a delightful fusion of both cultures.

A High-Energy Day Filled with Love and Laughter

From the moment I arrived at Upwaltham Barns, I was struck by the venue's rustic charm and idyllic setting. The barn itself was beautifully decorated with fairy lights and greenery, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Mara & Chris' Incredible Jewish/Scottish Wedding at Lochgreen Hotel

The amazing couple that is Mara & Chris got married at the beautiful Lochgreen Hotel in Troon on a very rainy Monday, but that didn’t stop them from having one hell of a party! It also didn’t stop them from going out in the rain for pictures. I’m always up for an adventure, so I was more than happy to oblige.

The day had so much to offer. The ceremony (and the dance floor) incorporated Jewish and Scottish traditions. From tying the knot to smashing the glass and from The Horah to The Slosh! So much fun!

What an incredible day with an awesome bunch of people.

Saying "I Do" with Scottish Majesty: An Elopement Adventure on the Isle of Skye

Fort William, nestled amidst the awe-inspiring Scottish Highlands served as a charming location for the intimate wedding ceremony of Quinn and Lewis. With just a handful of close friends and family, they exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony at the Fort William registry office.

But the real magic began after the "I do's." The newlyweds, along with myself (their trusty photographer!), hopped on a ferry to the Isle of Skye, a place famed for its dramatic landscapes and untamed beauty. This wasn't your typical post-wedding photoshoot; it was an adventure!

Quinn & Lewis shared their personal vows in Sligachan with the Cuillin mountain range serving as a dramatic backdrop.

We scaled the Quiraing, a natural rock formation offering panoramic vistas that left us breathless. Quinn, in her flowing gown that danced in the breeze, and Lewis, his face beaming with newfound joy, looked like characters straight out of a fairytale amidst the rugged terrain. We almost lost the veil to the mountain due to the fierce Scottish wind, but I sprang into life and managed to catch it just in time.

A Scottish Elopement Dream: Untamed Torridon Witnessess Intimate Highland Wedding

The wild winds of the Highlands tugged at the lace of the bride's gown, carrying whispers of romance through the rugged peaks of Torridon. This wasn't a wedding with a grand ceremony or a hundred guests milling about. This was an elopement, a love story unfolding in the embrace of the majestic Scottish landscape, witnessed only by the ancient mountains and the lens of my camera.

Our journey began at the historic Torridon Estate, where two souls from Belgium, far from the bustle of their homeland, prepared for their most intimate adventure. The air was thick with anticipation, not of a crowded aisle walk, but of the vows they would soon exchange amidst the untamed beauty of Beinn Alligin. No elaborate decorations, just the raw elegance of nature served as their backdrop.

But the real magic happened at the reception, transforming the casino into a vibrant hub of laughter and friendly competition.
